DANIEL CROOKS
finally remembered the name to post it on my blog…
this was inspiration for my video works in the first six weeks, now i am referring to them again for my final presentation/project.

wish i remember when i was doing my first artist statement…. fml :(

i love the cutting… the new style of panorama. the cropping of people but placing them back together - like a somewhat collage.

idea for how to present in the gallery space… still a little confused about that!

idea for how to present in the gallery space… still a little confused about that!

the past three images are live traced and i played around a lot with greyscale, colour or black and white with how many layers of colour and smoothness and whatnot. i believe these three came out the best aesthetically.

Within our lives we come across many people and some become important to us. We can then usually spot them out of a crowd. When looking at a crowd we do not notice the people who we do not know. With this work I wanted to focus on the stranger. In taking the photos for this I have learnt about how to take photos of people in public and the legal issues surrounding it. I have also gathered how important the face is to identifying a person. Using Illustrator I demonstrated this ‘unknown’ by giving them a flattened effect to reflect the way these people do not stand out to us. Although by isolating them, we take notice of the individual. Could this be the next important person to us? Will we ever see this person again? The unidentifiable parallels these questions. With influences from street artists such as Banksy, the viewer is drawn to the people in the works instead of walking straight past them. With Banksy’s work, unless you know it is his work or take interest in observing street art, they would be classified as just another piece of graffiti.
